Railway stations and yards
Prague Masaryk Station
Prague Masaryk passenger station is located in the vicinity of Prague Main railway station and Florenc bus station, between two town districts - New Town and Karlín. The ongoing development of Karlín and neighbouring Žižkov districts brings the question of possible utilisation of unused areas of Masaryk railway station and overall modernisation of the station, with the aim to create a modern and attractive urban area.
Lausanne Triage
Lausanne Triage, owned and operated by SBB Infrastruktur, is one of the most important terminals in Switzerland - 20% of inland wagon-load transport volume is sorted and classified here. The marshalling (classification) yard is situated in Lémanique region. After May 2006, the importance of this yard increased due to the concentration of train-formation processes in Swiss inland transport.
Brno Main Station Junction
Brno, the center of the Moravia region, is located in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. Brno railway junction started its history as a small terminal for trains from Breclav or Vienna; connections to railway lines from other directions joined later, leading to infrastructure development according to the operational needs. Nowadays, the Brno junction belongs to few major Czech railway junctions.
Ulm BetriebsCenter
The planned project "Stuttgart 21" and the construction of high-speed railway line Stuttgart-Munich, have major influence on train sets maintenance operations in German land of Wuerttenberg. New operational concept of train set maintenance requires the maintenance capacities in the Ulm region to be largely extended. The solution to this problem seems to be the construction of brand new maintenance centre, replacing not used part of current marshalling yard.
Industrial facilities
BASF Ludwigshafen
BASF is the world's leading chemical company, headquartered in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The industrial sidings of the Ludwigshafen facility with nearly 300 km of tracks belongs to the largest in Europe. The facility includes own marshalling yard with a double track hump, more than 20 classification sidings and enormous capacity of holding tracks. Each day, several dozens of production halls have to be supplied with rail cars to deliver material and transport finished products. Some of the goods are also transported utilising nearby container terminal KTL.
voestalpine Edelweiss
Facing the challenges of increasing demand for steel products, voestalpine steel producer decided to rise its production volumes and invest more than 5 mld. Euro to build a brand new steel production facility on the Black Sea cost (the project is codenamed Edelweiss). The facility, which actual location is still unknown, should be able to produce 5 mil. tons of steel per year.
Other systems
Busto Arsizio / Gallarate
Hupac is the leading rail transport provider of inter-modal traffic through the Swiss Alps. The Busto Arsizio / Gallarate Terminal is one of the most advanced inter-modal centres in all of Europe for the transhipment of freight traffic from the road to rails. With an overall surface of 250,000 m2, this facility has an operational capacity of 30 pairs of Shuttle Net trains per day, equal to the daily transhipment of 1,500 road shipments.
Bratislava TEN-T
Planned connection of European railway corridors TEN-T (Trans European Network for Transport) is the biggest transportation infrastructure project in Slovak capital city Bratislava. The planned railway line (crossing the Danube river underground) is supposed to connect several city districts and should be used by international as well as regional and urban trains.
Backbone Urban Transport Bratislava Petrzalka
The creation of efficient backbone urban transportation system belongs to long-term goals of town Bratislava. Bratislava Petrzalka is the biggest town district with more than 115000 inhabitants. The designed backbone system should allow direct connection of public urban and regional transportation (the connection of Petrzalka with other town districts and also with nearby villages and town to the east and north of Bratislava). The backbone system should be connected to the TEN-T European corridor as well and even partly utilise its infrastructure possibly using dual system vehicles (Tram-trains).
